Empathy and Weight Gain part 3

As we continue our discussion on weight gain, we need to fully understand the nature of the empathic person.

The Empath is a powerful healer and they are naturally always (either knowingly or unknowingly) on the mission of healing those around them. Since empathic persons tend to respond more to what is happening outside of themselves then what is going on inside of them they are always responding to the emotions of others and the collective consciousness as well. Constantly sensing the emotional state of outside influences and responding to induce healing can create stress for the person who is highly empathic. This is an unconscious occurrence and one that cannot be stopped since the Empath was put here on the earth plane to heal. As we discussed more and more highly empathic souls are descending to the earth to help heal the planet and we are beginning to see the side effects this creates when we are not aware of how to manage this wonderfully healing gift.

Constantly on a healing mission, telling the empath not to seek to heal everything around them is like telling a person not to breath, it is simply an impossibility. So we must understand the main mission of the empath is a healing path. Empathy is a gift that must be held with extreme care. It is important that the individual who is undergoing the empathic reactions not become depleted and suffer side effects that will inhibit their healing abilities, causing them to become energetically blocked and bring on undesirable effects such as weight gain.

Why weight gain?

There are two main reasons weight gain is so common among Empaths. The first one is Energetic Cushioning, this occurs when a sensitive unconsciously seeks ways to protect their own energetic field. This is common with the empath because of their strong response to what occurs outside their own energetic field; they unconsciously seek to soften or cushion the effects from the harsh energies that they absorb from outside sources. Adding extra weight gives them the false sense that they are secure in this layer of dense mass that will keep their highly acute energetic field protected. This actually does no good at all and only creates more feelings of unworthiness and failure for the empath which become a vicious cycle of seeking more relief.

Another reason for weight gain within the empathic individual is to seek out relief from the emotional states that can occur when you are acting as a mirror for those around you who are suffering. To continuously absorb external energies which are wounded can create feelings of depression, lethargy and any number of painful effects. Seeking out ways to sooth and quell the pain the empath is taking on for others can result in indulging in comfort foods. These types of foods can work on a psychological level and induce temporary pleasures. Certain foods rekindle memories or sensations from the past (perhaps in childhood) when we felt safe and secure. We unknowingly seek out the feelings these foods give us to sooth the pain of being highly empathic. Also there are other types of comfort foods that affect our mood by increasing the compounds in the brain used to manufacture the neurotransmitters which give us a type of euphoria. This type of relief is only temporary but the weight we put on from the comfort food is permanent, again creating another vicious cycle of seeking out more relief.

Now that we understand the two main reasons Empaths experience weight gain, next we will discuss more proactive and productive ways to combat weight gain and other undesirable effects of the wonderfully healing gift of empathy. In part four we will discuss how to use your sensitivity to enhance the experience of not only those around you, but your own life as well.
